More exciting news coming from the rebel base!

An exclusive report released this morning names Matt Smith (The Crown, Doctor Who) as a “key” character in Star Wars: Episode IX. This announcement is keeping in tune with other big casting news for the final chapter in the Skywalker saga, such as the return of Billy Dee Williams and the fact that Carrie Fisher will be featured using previously unreleased footage shot for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Currently in production in the U.K, Star Wars: Episode IX is being directed by J. J. Abrams and will welcome back cast members Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, and Billie Lourd, and introduce new cast members Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, and Keri Russell. We will also see the return of veteran Star Wars actors Mark Hamill and Anthony Daniels as Luke Skywalker and C-3PO respectively.

While it is unclear as to what side Matt Smith will be on, I think he’ll make a fab addition to the team. He’s still no David Tennant, but, you know…

Star Wars: Episode IX is set for release on December 20th, 2019.
