Netflix Original Film “Apostle” Gives Us Godly Gore

“The promise of the divine is but an illusion.” – Netflix

Religion can be scary when taken to an extreme, and the new Netflix original film Apostle seems no different. Movies, where the poor outsider crosses the zealous elites of a small isolated town and is persecuted for it, are not new but this time the torture looks incredibly brutal and feature devices that seem to have a Saw-like but medieval¬†feel. Director Gareth Evans is an expert at creating viscerally¬†graphic films as we’ve seen from his Raid series.

The lead cast members include Dan Stevens who has some considerable horror experience on his resume but is in a very different role from the last project I saw him in, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, and Michael Sheen (who will always be a vampire in my mind thanks to his role in the Underworld series and his role in Twilight. This movie looks like it could be a deeply disturbing viewing experience, one that I am looking forward to.

Apostle premieres on Netflix October 12 and should be added to your Halloween viewing schedule immediately thereafter.
