The Return Of Blade?

Wesley Snipes said in an interview recently that he and his team have been “discussing” the possibilities of putting him back into the Marvel Universe, and that they’ve created something awesome, actually two things.

We don’t know when, or even if, any of these talks will result in a new film (or films) but it’s certainly a possibility. All three of the Blade films were profitable for the studio, and it’s likely that the success of Black Panther may be used as evidence that the mainstream comic book and superhero audiences are ready for more diverse leads.

It’s also not completely clear whether or not the smooth talking, vampire killing, dance fighting Blade will be returning in his own film, or in connection with some other property, but what we know for sure is that Snipes is excited for his future with Marvel.

“There are a lot of conversations going around right now and we’re very blessed to have the enthusiasm and interest in something coming from that world again. We’ve created two projects that fit perfectly into this world and, when people see them, I think they’re only going to have a problem with deciding which one they love the most.”

There are two major things that could play against a Blade resurrection. The first major hurdle is Marvel’s apparent desire to stay out of the darker or more supernatural realm of comics. Blade is clearly both, and generally bloody to boot. The other is the fact that Disney now has so many properties in the comic and hero realm they may want to stand on before putting their money into a basket that is so far from their sweet and gooey Avengers center.

“All the main execs [at Marvel] and my team, we’ve been discussing for the past two years,” Snipes explained. “Everyone’s enthusiastic about it, everybody gets it. But they got a business to run and they gotta square the things that they gotta figure out before they can get to it, I guess. In the meantime, we got a business to run and our own slate of things to do”

It also stands to mention that the comic book film famous Ryan Reynolds (Green Lantern, Deadpool) has said that he would definitely not be returning for a fourth blade film even if such a thing were to happen.
